I did not know that I was older than the federal holiday honoring this man. That's insane to me. The holiday is only 25 years old. The legislation introduced to honor this day was presented on April 8th, 1968. It was not passed until August 1983, it did not receive any votes until 1979! And it wasn't honored by all 50 states until 2000. South Carolina was the last state to honor it. Wow... Check out this clip from "The Rachel Maddow Show".
