My awesome dinner!!!!!!
I had an insane craving for seared tuna, so I said fuck it! I went and got a delish looking piece of tuna today.
I seared the tuna after I coated it in chia seeds, which have an amazing nutty, coffee like taste to them when toasted by the way. The tuna was rare in the middle, with a 1-3 minute sear on all sides.
I paired it with a light salad. Mixed greens, yellow bell pepper, cucumber, tomato, sliced baby Bella mushrooms tossed with a dressing of extra light olive oil, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper. I topped the salad with a tomato, avocado salsa and a little sliced hard boiled egg.
The salsa was made with finely chopped tomatoes, finely chopped avocado, minced garlic, minced shallot, cilantro, lemon juice and salt.
It was a party in my mouth! Yum! If I can figure out how tobpost the pictures I took with my iPhone I will add it the post!

Sorry it's been a while!
Hey all!
Sorry it's been so long since I have written! School has been insane! But I do have some updates to previous posts.
Concerning Christianity... I can't do it anymore. I'm sorry but I find it difficult to believe that the bible is actually correct. I believe whole heartening in science, evolution and such. And a book that condemns homosexuality, which I truly believe that is naturally occurring and not learned or chosen. But is okay with incest, murder, and such is not the religion for me.
But as for things I do believe in... I'm working on reading a few books that I find fascinating! One is the "The edible history of humanity." It is awesome! It basically lays out how food and our quest to control this resource has directly caused us to evolve from a hunter gather society to the multi-level society we are today. Read it! It is a great book! After this one I will dive into "Spice: The history of a temptation". It's along the same lines as the last, but focuses on spices.
Of course there is more, but it is late and I should go to bed. But my next post will be about politics. Yes another touchy subject, but I have to be consistent! Till later all!

I have a midterm already. So next week I will put it on here. And seriously... I would like to hear your thoughts on it. So please leave a comment or send me a message. Thanks!

Updating the Constitution!! In theory....
Ok so.. So I started this little discussion in my political science online forum area. And I (a) enjoyed it.. It made me think of solutions to our equality problem. And (b) got me all idealistic and I actually want to go around and poll people and see what they would like to see for a finished re-written constitution.. I'm curious.... The discussion follows... It's between me, Seya and Noah. Our professor pops in at the beginning and end. Apparently I gave her an idea for a critical thinking essay... Oops...
Let's say just for arguments sake... They have a census that the entire country had to vote on. And it had all of our suggestions on it. Plus people we voted on to only interpret our requests and put the appropriate ones on paper. (Yes I know, what is appropriate? It will always depend... But lets pretend it's equality and no discrimination of anyone. Just for an example..)
Some people would throw the "I don't like this and I want this changed" argument out there. But that's why we would need to elect people to re-write the constitution. Plus... It's already been done.. The constitution was originally the articles of confederation..
Everything is always possible. Action requires someone to initate it though. And our generation is most likely gonna have to step up and take the first step. If we want change, then we need to implement change..
Great comment though Noah! That made me think for a sec! And Seya too! I enjoyed conversing with you both on this!
Anyways.. That was the discussion.. Send a message with your thoughts! I'm curious!
(My Original Question)
At the beginning of Chapter 2 in the textbook the authors describe the tea party members as literally interpreting the Constitution for this day and age to back up their actions. And I've noticed that at the core of most political disagreements, when it comes to opinions on the Constitution. People either take it literally or glean certain parts of it.
My question is... Should we update the Constitution to actually reflect our current climate, citizens, and problems of this day and age?
Personally I say we should. It was written over 200 years ago. The founders and authors of it had different problems than we have now. And I think that it is ridicules to go off something so dated. If we want to be a country that actually is forward progressing, and learns from our mistakes. We should update our most important documents to fit todays needs.
What do all of you think?
(Teachers Response)
Great question Mary. I am curious to see what you classmates think.
Professor Tabares
(Me)
Thank you! I am too.
(Seya)
Your question prompted me to look at all the constitutional amendments: http://www.america.gov/st/usg-english/2008/April/20080416204259eaifas0.7985803.html
It's interesting to note how amendments were needed to give African Americans, women, and adults aged 18 the right to vote. You'd think these things would go without saying, but only white men were considered people in the fullest sense then.
Are you suggesting we add more amendments that reflect our current issues, or write a whole new constitution?
(Me)
First off.. Thanks for looking and responding!
Second, it is sad that rights such as voting and marriage are not available to all in the orginial draft of the constitution. To have to add them as an after thought is an insult to what we stand for. Which is to be a forward progressing, equal, and truly pioneering nation. Which we are not...
I'm suggesting that we write an entire new constitution. The one we have now is important! It is our history. But it is sentimental to hold on to an obsolete document. History changes daily and so all of us should change with it. Rights like that shouldn't need to be added as an after thought, which is what an amendment really is if you think about it.... Close the loopholes, and and write a truly amazing document that would surprise the world, and our citizens.. That would be awe-inspiring! That would be a true change!
(Seya)
I like your argument, Mary! We do have many issues that need to be addressed head-on, that the current constitution seems insufficient for.
But, say we got past the first hurdle of those who hold our original constitution sacred and would refuse to see it rewritten...And now we began writing our new constitution. Even in the interpretation of the old one, people differ. How much will they differ when we try and decide what to include in the new one?
There are issues which I know many people would specifically want to see addressed in a new consitution. Some, adamantly, would want them addressed in one way. And I, equally adamant, would want them addressed in the exact opposite way.
(Me)
And that's our problem. We need to leave religion, stereotypes, old resentments and such in the past and truly be open-minded of all cultures. But that is not human nature and that is our problem.
Hopefully someday someone can prove me wrong with that. I would love to tell my daughter that my generation was able to change things for her to have a truly equal future..
Maybe, just maybe... We can actually elect officals into office that can do that. Represent all of America and all of it's citizens the way we should be represented. As a collective whole that is not separated by gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or political party. Wistfull thinking I know, but a girl can always dream!
But seriously.. If we were able to rewrite the constitution, our basic rights.. To have a constitution that reflected equality for all as a basic right for all people. That would be ground-breaking! I'd love to see that....
(Seya)
Yes, human nature isn't prone to empathy and compromise. It seems we like to jump to conclusions and villify others first.
In theory, I would like to see a constitution rewritten to reflect our current issues and understandings, but because of this very human nature I don't think it would be possible.
I can't remember who it was who theorized that, in order to attain a classless state in society, a different sort of reform would be needed first: A reformation of our natures and outlooks as individuals, basically a shift in consciousness.
(Me)
Again.. Maybe we will see change in our lifetime. But we will most likely have to be the ones to implement the change by leading with our example.
(Noah)
Pandoras Box? Let me play devils advocate for a moment. Would opening the constitution to re interpretation set a dangerous precedent? "I don't like the way the constitution views this. Lets re write it" Amendments are OK to catch up to the contemporary view of our public but an all out re write feels like dangerous ground to me.
(Me)
It would only be dangerous if dangerous people were in charge of the re-write. There would have to be a massive, multi-check system to be in charge of the re-write.Let's say just for arguments sake... They have a census that the entire country had to vote on. And it had all of our suggestions on it. Plus people we voted on to only interpret our requests and put the appropriate ones on paper. (Yes I know, what is appropriate? It will always depend... Great discussion Mary and Seya. It is beginning to give me an idea for one of our critical thinking essay topics.

Martin Luther King Jr Day
I did not know that I was older than the federal holiday honoring this man. That's insane to me. The holiday is only 25 years old. The legislation introduced to honor this day was presented on April 8th, 1968. It was not passed until August 1983, it did not receive any votes until 1979! And it wasn't honored by all 50 states until 2000. South Carolina was the last state to honor it. Wow... Check out this clip from "The Rachel Maddow Show". I love her show and her way of bringing us this information.

Things about me that can offend people.
OK. So this has been an interesting week.. I guess I offend two people at work all the time. This I did not know. And of course it has to do with my being gay.
So first person. I work with this older Romanian woman who is very old school Christian. She has known that I am gay for quite some time now. But she insists that I meet a nice boy. Yea like that isn't offensive to me! So she was asking about my New Years. If you have read my post from that you know most of the story. But to summarize for her all I said was.. I had a great New Years, saw an old friend and I met a wonderful woman. That's it people! That offended her! But during our conversation. She never said, "Hey, I really don't care to hear about that." And what she said to me.. "I'm glad your going to church so that you can cured of your ways." ........ What?! Yes, you read that right. She actually said that to me. I went off. I pretty much said, I don't care how you were raised, or what you believe. You don't say something like that to someone! That's effing rude! Anyways. My comment about my New Years offended her so much that she ran to a friend of mine (and hers) and angrily (yes angrily) informed her that she doesn't want to hear about my gay life. (She told our friend a couple of days after the incident or something..)
Fast forward to the conversation with my friend. She's telling me about the older woman's request for my laying off the gay talk. I said, Okay. I can that, I'm just not used to censoring myself anymore. (Which sucks by the way!) But apparently while my friend and I were having this heart to heart. She informs me that some of the things I say offend her! And that she doesn't agree with my choices because homosexuals disgust her now. But she still loves me as a person and will always be there. What?! How the hell isn't that offensive??? I mean seriously! I'm still pissed about that one! She then proceeded to tell me a story about a friend of hers that was saved and stopped being gay due to his being saved. Again.. What?!
This is exactly why I have such a problem with religion. Why can't I be gay and religious? Didn't God create me the way I am? I was born gay, so I'm going to with.. Um... Yes, he did! WTF!
You know what I find interesting.. It's wrong for me to offend other people. But it's perfectly fine for them to insult who I am. I'm watching what I say at work now. And the gall of these people....... They come up to me and their like, "Hey why do you look so down?" Uh duh I can't act like myself around you effing people! It's crap.. I can't wait to leave this state and these people behind.

New Years 2011!!
Hey all! I had an amazing New Years, did you?? Just for your reading pleasure, and so I remember what happened. I'm gonna lay it down for you!
I flew in from California on New Years Eve right. My friend picked me up from Philly, and yes my flight was late. DAMN SNOW AND ICE! We made it over to her apartment, where her friends had started a game of beer pong.. (Beer Pong=Lame, Whitney who is OCD+Beer Pong= Pissed) They had decided that we were gonna to Club 27?? Whatever, its in Philly.
We took the train, we were smart! But my date's train ticket got eaten by the fare gate thing. So she had to call a number and be like, "Hey it's XXXXX, Can I get thru?" And then the gate would open for her. It was like she was a VIP!!
We finally made our way to the club, which was down a dark alley... It had 2, yes 2! Hostels across the alley. Hm.... First off, I didn't care for the club.. We had to pay a $45 cover and our drinks were included (which were tiny and sucked!) We had to pay extra to check our coats. And people were already wasted when we got there. There was a scary gogo dancer that tried to get me and my lovely date to tip her. (Ick! When a lesbian says ick... That's saying something...) But we happen to be lezzies with great taste!
Anyways were dancing, making out, having petite drinks. We would find our group, drift off and go back to our group... We were entertained. Its almost midnight, but we didn't know this. We both go in line for the bathroom. Ok... First off, there is a lesbian in front of us. This is the first of our kind we have encountered.. She tells my date that shes gonna smoke and knock 2x or whatever.. Meanwhile there was this creepy, overweight, greasy guy talking to us. Now then... Let's be honest.. I was making out with my date. I'm sure it was a lovely site to see two beautiful woman making out. But that doesn't mean that you come up behind them, and grab their ass! What the fuck!!! I had to spin around and tell this guy no. My exact quote was, "This is a two person thing, no.." So after this, it's our turn and were going to the bathroom... So my date is like, "Hey, their counting down!" So we count down and we have our New Years kiss... In the bathroom.. But for fun, we decided to bust out, making out like we just finish cumming. I think we hit someone with the door. I hope we did...It would have been awesome!
I believe that we stayed for about an hour more... We were groped by a very drunk woman.... I guess that's what one does on New Years while intoxicated.. So... One of my friends friends that lived nearby invited us over. She lived in a pretty cool place. We were gonna relax and lay down, but the drunk chick kept falling on us in an attempt to feel up my date, again... So we left... Our whole group left to head back to the train station.
By the time we got to the train station, three of us had lost our buzz (myself included). The train took forever to get there. But we were people watching and so happy that none of our group was bent double over a trash can. Thank god! Anyways.. So we got on the train. One of our people starting talking to this guy. Kinda creepy if you ask me.. We get to our stop, which we at first couldn't remember which one was ours... The creepy guy tags along with our group... Yea... It was interesting, he came in. Made himself a drink, spilled it and hung out for like 3 hrs! So my friend, who lives in the apartment, kept cracking "jokes" to the guy. They were along the lines of "Hey please don't kill us!" The guy took it personal! I mean seriously, can't the guy take a joke??!! ;)
By the time the creepy guy left it was 6ish in the morning. My date and I had already gone to bed. Actually most of the people had passed out by this time. But when the creepy guy left he yelled out Shalom.... What?? So my date yells out, "Lock the door!!" We both agreed that no one did. But obviously he didn't kill us. Or I wouldn't be writing this right now.
So that was my New Years! My friend and date made it awesome. And hopefully if that night dictates the rest of my year, then I am going to have a awesome year!
